The objective of this research is to develop a Web-based geographical information system (GIS) to support ARC Linkage Grant Application: Community Variations in Crime: A Spatial and Ecometric Analysis. This system can provide maps and analysis to highlight magnitude and patterns of community crime rates and levels of collective efficacy and crime prevention programs in the 224 statistical local areas of Brisbane statistical division. The research also demonstrates the usefulness and appeal of the developed Web-based GIS as an information dissemination, visualisation and spatial data analysis tool for promoting public awareness of social conditions.

To access the Web-based GIS you must have the Java plug-in (a Java Runtime Environment - JRE) installed on your computer and your browser must be configured to enable Java applets.

Click on Go to start the Web-based GIS. Your feedback on using this application would be greatly appreciated.
